$10M Worth of Cocaine Found Floating in Gulf of Mexico

An off-duty detective, fishing off the Florida coast, reeled in an illicit catch worth more than $10 million.

According to Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummel, the deputy found a package containing about 50 pounds of uncut powdered cocaine floating in the Gulf of Mexico, about 20 miles offshore.

The drugs were turned over to federal investigators who are working with the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office to determine where the package came from.

Prummel said the street value of the uncut cocaine was about $2.5 million, and could be worth up to $12 million once they are cut.
