Group was walking along I-95 express lanes following two separate accidents when struck by a fifth vehicle

Heavy delays and closures plauged I-95 after a fatal morning involving three accidents and multiple cars.

Florida Highway Patrol officials say trouble began with two seperate crashes near 103rd Street in Miami.

As passengers involved in one crash walked back along the interstate near express lanes to check on passengers in another vehicle, five of them were struck by a passing car.

Four people were pronounced dead, the fifth struck victim was sent to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition, and two people in the vehicle that hit the pedestrians were also sent to Ryder.

Both north and southbound lanes were shut down for several hours; all but northbound express lanes have since reopened as the Highway Patrol continues its investigation.
