Clerk Dead, 3 Shot During Check Store Heist

Three people were shot during check cashing store robbery in unincorporated Broward

A check cashing store clerk is dead after being shot during a robbery in Broward County, authorities said Tuesday.

Clairemathe Geffrard, 25, was gunned down during the morning robbery at 2927 W. Sunrise Boulevard. It's unclear exactly who shot the woman, who was initially believed to be a hostage when authorities arrived on scene.

"He didn't just kill my wife," said James Sinvil, her husband of one year. "He killed me and the whole family because everyone is in pain."

In total, three people were shot after Broward Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the incident, including 33-year-old suspect Stanley Beasley and innocent bystander Jorge Aguilar.

The incident began around 9:30 a.m. when authorities received an alarm indicating a robbery at the store, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

When deputies approached the store, they were shot at by a suspect, BSO said. Deputies returned fire, wounding Beasley in the parking lot of the store, officials said.

As paramedics approached Beasley, they were also fired upon, BSO said. The medics retreated and Aguilar, who was across the street, was shot in the hail of bullets.

It was unknown whose bullets struck Aguilar, Sheriff Al Lamberti said.

A SWAT team responded to the parking lot and disarmed Beasley, who was seen being taken away on a stretcher. Beasley was also holding a duffle bag filled with money, BSO said.

The SWAT officers entered the store, where they found Geffrard wounded.

All three injured people were rushed to Broward General Medical Center. Geffrard died around 2 p.m., devastating her husband.

"I'm speechless. I can't feel myself right now. I can't cry anymore. I've been crying since I got the message," he said.

The couple's son will turn one next week.

"She wanted to see her son grow up," he said.

Beasley has a lengthy criminal history that includes charges of robbery, burglary, grand theft, battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest, BSO said. No other suspects were found.
