Prez Hopeful Bachmann Makes Miami Stop

GOP congresswoman made lunch stop at Versailles

Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann made a lunch stop in Miami Monday as she winds up her four-day trip through Florida.

The Minnesota congresswoman visited the Versailles Restaurant in Little Havana after a trip to the Bay of Pigs Memorial at noon.

“Cuban Americans have identified that wonderful spirit that is America, to be able to do better for your children that you have done yourself,” she said.

Bachmann was in Sarasota Sunday, where she talked about drilling for oil and gas in the Everglades and said she'd consider Florida Sen. Marco Rubio as a running mate.

“Lets access this wonderful treasure trove of energy that God has given to us in this country. Lets access it responsibly. That’s the answer. If we can access energy responsibly, we do it. If we can't, we don’t. It’s that simple,” Bachmann said Monday in response to questions about finding energy resources.

Bachmann indicated Monday that she would have her eyes not just on Florida but any region where there could be oil, coal, or other natural resources that would lessen America's dependence on foreign oil.

But Dr. Patrick Jacobs, who happened to be at the memorial at the same time as Bachmann, said he was against the idea.

“I think it’s a short-sighted concept and tries to solve today's problems in the economy by destroying our natural resources,” Jacobs said.

Bachmann also said she was joking when she said Hurricane Irene and the earthquake were God’s warning to Washington

“If you know me, you know I am a person who loves humor,” she said.

A Sachs/Mason-Dixon Florida poll released last week had Bachmann trailing Mitt Romney and Rick Perry among GOP hopefuls in the Sunshine State.
