15-Year-Old Killed While Walking Home from School

Johnny Lubin was a freshman at Miami Northwestern Senior High School. He dreamed of becoming a professional football player, and his mother says he was also interested in becoming a police officer.

The 15 year old's life was cut short on November 18, 2015 while walking home from school with two friends a red vehicle approached. Police say Johnny's friends hid at an apartment complex, but Johnny stayed behind.

"We even have a witness who started yelling at him telling him you better run and Johnny said I didn't do anything. I don't have a reason to run, but he then decided to run and ran westbound," said Sgt. Wilbert Sanchez, Miami Dade Police Department.

Detectives say Lubin was shot on Northwest 14th Avenue and 77th street. He was transported to Ryder Trauma Center, but died during surgery.

"They said operating trying to get the bullet out of his head, but unfortunately he didn't make it," said Julie Examar, mother of Lubin.

Miami Dade Police do not believe Johnny Lubin was the intended target. They are confident more than one person is to blame.

"The individuals who are responsible for this we don't think they are adults. They are maybe 18 or 15, in that general age range," said Sgt. Sanchez.
