A Deltona man was arrested after he was accused of hugging a 10-year-old girl and squeezing her buttocks, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said.
Adam Sturgeon, 32, faces charges of child molestation, authorities said.
The sheriff's office said Sturgeon was standing near Friendship Elementary School when he asked a 10-year-old girl for a hug as she made her way to school Thursday morning. Though the girl denied his request, Sturgeon grabbed her by the waist, gave her hug and squeezed her buttocks, officials said.
Residents in the area told officials they had been concerned about Sturgeon's odd behavior and that he would often hang out and play with children in the neighborhood, a release said.
When questioned by authorities, Surgeon gave incoherent and rambling responses, officials said.
He is being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail on $50,000 bond, according to a report.
It wasn't immediately known if Sturgeon had an attorney.
