Police-Involved Shooting Leaves 1 Dead: Cops

One man was shot and killed by police in Southwest Miami-Dade, officials said

One man was shot and killed in Southwest Miami-Dade after a police-involved shooting Saturday, officials said.

The incident began with an early morning chase in the area of 66th Street and 80th Avenue around 3:30 a.m., Miami-Dade police said.

Authorities were investigating an individual they believe could have been involved in an alleged theft of a Rolex earlier this week but when they approached the suspect, there was an altercation, officials said.

The man fled and tried to run over officers in his car, according to police.

After another altercation a few blocks away on Southwest 21st Street and 68th Avenue, police were forced to shoot the suspect, they said.

No officers were seriously hurt during the incident.

A surveillance video released earlier this week shows a man trying on the pricey watch in a jewelry store on Bird Road as a teenager stands by his side. With the watch still on, the man smashes through the glass door with the teenager running behind him.

Officials have not verified if the man shot is the same individual involved in the Rolex theft.
