The former athletic director at University of Miami, Paul T. Dee, died Saturday, the university said.
Dee, 65, who served at UM for more than 30 years and most prominently served as the athletic director from 1993-2008, died suddenly, according to a release.
"The entire University of Miami community is saddened by the loss of Paul Dee,” said University of Miami President Donna E. Shalala. "A proud alumnus, he will be remembered for his distinguished career and service to the University as Vice President and General Counsel, Director of Hurricane Athletics and a member of the School of Education faculty."
As athletic director Dee led the university to three national championships including two in baseball in 1999 and 2001 and one in football in 2001.

The viewing will take place Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Van Orsdel Coral Gables Chapel at 4600 SW 8th Street. A funeral mass has also been scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Augustine Catholic Church located at 1400 Miller Road in Coral Gables. A reception will follow at 12 p.m. in the Newman Alumni Center, 6200 San Amaro Drive, in the UM campus.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Paul T. Dee Fund for The University of Miami Athletics Department and the School of Law. Donations can be sent to the University of Miami, Advancement Division, P.O. Box 248073, Coral Gables, FL 33124.
