Self-Described Drug Dealer Says He Shot 3 in SW Miami-Dade: Police

Two men were killed and a third was in critical condition Wednesday after a shooting at the home of a self-described drug dealer in Southwest Miami-Dade County.

Police found three men shot when they responded to a home invasion robbery call around 11 p.m. Tuesday at a home on the 3800 block of SW 99th Avenue.

Carlos Sanchez, 36, died at the scene, another victim died at the hospital and a third, Marie Didier Fils-Aime, 42, is still clinging to life.

Police said Lazaro Gil, 24, confessed to the shootings at the home. Gil was at the scene in his girlfriend’s car when officers arrived and told them he owned the home, police said.

Gil told police he sold drugs from the home, police say.

Detectives found more than a pound of marijuana on the roof of the home after Gil consented to having the home searched, according to police.

They also found a .38 Glock in the passenger seat floorboard of his girlfriend's car, they said. Gil told police the gun was his, and that he had also tried to dispose of a 9mm Glock handgun. Police found that 9mm behind Gil’s home.

Juan Hurtado said he rushed to the scene Wednesday afternoon because he believes his cousin may be one of the victims.

“He left the house, never came back. He hasn’t been home since this morning, so that alerted me to come over here,” Hurtado said. “I might as well find answers for myself, rather than have my family going through all this commotion, all this wondering.”

Neighbors said throughout the day that they believed the shooting was drug-related.

“Apparently there was a drug deal,” said Amanda Alvarez.

“Everybody was talking about the shooting. The shootout, drugs,” said Leonard Roque. “Drugs are everywhere, and crime, you know, it’s concerning.”
