Two Escaped Inmates Back in Custody in Miami-Dade

Two inmates who escaped from a boot camp work program in Miami-Dade Thursday have been caught, officials said.

James Dukes was caught in the area of 108th Avenue and Southwest 216th Street around 4 p.m., Miami-Dade Police said.

Manuel Guzman was was apprehended hours later in the area of Southwest 247th Street and 109th Avenue by Robbery Bureau detectives, police said.

Two Miami-Dade schools were placed on lockdown after the two prisoners escaped around 11:30 a.m.

Douglas MacArthur Vocational School and Goulds Elementary School were both placed on lockdown, Miami-Dade School Board officials said. The lockdown was later lifted.

The incident was reported in the area of Southwest 248th Street and Southwest 112th Avenue.

According to Miami-Dade Corrections, Guzman and Dukes, both 20, were working when they left the area without permission.

Guzman was arrested in August 2014 on a carjacking/robbery charge. Dukes was arrested in December 2013 on burglary and grand theft charges.

Dukes is on community controlled supervision until 2021. Guzman is under supervision for four years.

Guzman and Dukes were considered low-risk inmates, but that status could change after their  escape.
