SWAT Team Searching for Armed Suspect in Miami

A narcotics investigation turned SWAT situation on the streets of Little Havana Thursday. It all began around 3:00 p.m. off of Southwest 10th Avenue and 4th Street Miami police say a man pointed a gun at an officer.

"Luckily that officer was not hurt and nobody in the nearby area was hurt," said officer Kenia Fallat.

Police quickly set up a perimeter, brought out the K9's and began their search for six suspects. Two schools in the area, Riverside Elementary School and the Young Women's Preparatory Academy, were also placed on lockdown.

"We do urge the community to come together with us and help us," officer Fallat said.

Area residents were on edge Thursday evening and upset that they haven't been able to get to their homes for more than seven hours.

One resident, who spoke in Spanish, said she's scared but she's glad police are on top of the situation and that they won't move out of the area until they arrest all involved.

City of Miami police officers captured five suspects, but later continued going door to door looking for the man they say pointed the gun at one of their officers.

"Why he ran away, why he pointed the gun, we don't know, but we're seeing this happen a bit too often," officer Fallat said.

Police officers will remain on the scene through the night until they find the suspect.
