2 Teachers Resurface After 73 Days Underwater in Florida Keys

Two Tennessee teachers have resurfaced after spending 73 days underwater in a Florida Keys lagoon.

Roane State Community College's Bruce Cantrell and Jessica Fain say the feat lasting 73 days at Jules' Undersea Lodge breaks a record for the longest human underwater habitation. The previous record of 69 days was established by Rick Presley at the lodge in 1992.

While undersea, Cantrell and Fain hosted online ``Classroom Under the Sea'' programs for students worldwide via YouTube. Cantrell also taught an online class for Roane State students. They also periodically hosted visitors including astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Michael Gernhardt.

Earlier this year, Fabien Cousteau, the grandson of French ocean exploration pioneer Jacques Cousteau, spent 31 days living underwater in a laboratory located in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.
