Two teenagers are dead after authorities say their car went off a causeway and into Tampa Bay.
Tampa police say a Toyota Camry crashed through a guard rail near Courtney Campbell Causeway early Friday morning and went into the water. One occupant, 14-year-old Naeve Duarte, managed to get out of the car and swim to the surface. She sustained minor injuries.
Police say the U.S. Coast Guard, Clearwater Police Department and Tampa Fire Rescue responded to help rescue two other occupants, 18-year-old Rishi Martinez and 14-year-old Gyzelle Diaz. They were taken to a nearby hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.
Investigators say they're still trying to determine who was driving and what caused the crash.
