The man was shot during an attempted robbery early Saturday, police said

A 25-year-old man had surgery at Ryder Trauma Center after he was shot in his upper body during an attempted robbery early Saturday, Miami-Dade Police said.

Sometime after 5 a.m. two armed suspects attempted to rob the victim, a Hispanic male, and a physical confrontation followed, Miami-Dade Police spokesman Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said in an email.

Shots were fired and the victim was struck, but he managed to drive to the area of Northwest 95th Street and Northwest 2nd Avenue, where he called police, Zabaleta said.

The man had surgery Saturday afternoon, he said.
