2nd Arson Arrest Made in Taravella High School Fires: Police

A second student has been arrested for starting a fire inside Taravella High School in Coral Springs, police said Friday.

The 15-year-old student will face a charge of arson of an occupied structure, according to a Coral Springs Police report.

According to the report, the teen lit a T-shirt on fire during an altercation at the school on Monday. He tossed the shirt into a garbage pail, causing $600 in damages, the report said.

The student later admitted to lighting the shirt on fire, the report said.

The fire was the second at the school in two days. Another student was arrested Tuesday after setting a fire inside a locker room, police said.

Coral Springs Police increased their presence at the school after the fires and a series of other incidents including a fight between students and a possible threat made on social media.

On Friday, police presence was increased at a second Coral Springs school, Coral Glades High School, after another possible threat was posted to Instagram.

Police said all the students who made the threats have been identified and that charges are pending.
