Three juveniles were arrested on child pornography charges in Pembroke Pines after police say they created an Instagram account to post nude and sexually explicit images of fellow juveniles.
Police said they began to investigate the Instagram account in December, and found it had more than 500 followers who posted images of the under age kids from the Broward County area.
The account solicited followers to post the images to "expose" their peers, police said. The images included names and personal information of the victims. Followers harassed victims by posting cruel comments on the images.
Officials aren't identifying the juveniles, who are charged with electronic transmission of child pornography, police said. They are a 15-year-old boy, a 12-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl, police said.
"The Pembroke Pines Police Department urges the community to pay close attention to their children’s on-line activity," police said in a statement. "Anyone that transmits, downloads, or possesses images and/or videos which depict the exploitation of children/juveniles are subject to state and federal criminal charges."
Police are asking parents who suspect their child was victimized to call Pembroke Pines Police at 954-431-2200.
