3 People in Custody After 5-Year-Old Boy Injured in Shooting: Broward Sheriff's Office

Charges are pending, the BSO said

Detectives have taken three people into custody after a 5-year-old boy was injured in a shooting in Pembroke Park Wednesday, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

Charges are pending after the morning shooting at 5100 SW 41st St. Apt. 112, the BSO said.

A gunshot was heard inside the apartment after 10 a.m., and moments later the mother rushed her 5-year-old to the hospital, according to the BSO.

“I heard that he just got out of surgery and he’s in stable condition right now,” neighbor Ashley Johnson said of the boy, who is recovering at Joe DiMaggio’s Children Hospital in Hollywood.

Crime scene investigators left the premises in Pembroke Park late Wednesday afternoon.

BSO officials were tight-lipped about the child's injury.

"Three people have been taken into custody with charges pending, and the investigation is continuing right now,” BSO spokesman Mike Jachles said Wednesday night.

Johnson, who has two kids, said she often sees the 5-year-old.

"He comes to the door all the time, him and his little sister, always asking to play with my children, all the time," she said. "I don't even know him like that, like his family, but it's sad, I don't know. "
