3rd Arrest in Homestead Robbery That Ended With Victim Run Over

Police have made a third arrest in a November robbery in Homestead that ended with one of the victims fatally run over by the alleged getaway car.

Miguel Angel Hernandez, 23, was arrested on second-degree murder and strong-arm robbery charges after turning himself in to Miami-Dade Police Tuesday, according to an arrest report.

Liliana Elizabeth Chavoya, 18, and a 17-year-old were arrested earlier this year on similar charges in the Nov. 25, 2018 incident that police say happened in a parking lot along N. Krome Avenue.

The arrest report said the victim and his brother were at a party with relatives and had walked to a nearby gas station to buy beer and were walking back when the 17-year-old, Hernandez, and another unknown suspect approached them and started to beat them.

The suspects took the victims' cell phones and a wallet and got back into their car. That's when Chavoya accelerated the vehicle forward, running over one of the brothers, the report said.

The report said when the victim became wedged under the vehicle, the 17-year-old tried to remove him but couldn't, so Chavoya quickly accelerated the vehicle until it passed over the victim's body. The incident was captured on video footage, the report said.

The victim, whose name hasn't been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. His brother was also hospitalized.

Hernandez, Chavoya, and the 17-year-old are all being held without bond. Attorney information wasn't available.
