5 Puppies Stolen From Pet Shop

Puppy Dream was hit by female bandits in 2009 for four Chihuahuas

Another dog caper has hit a South Florida pet store, and this shop has become a regular target of dognappers, its owner said.

An unidentified woman stole five puppies Saturday from Puppy Dream, located at 6703 Bird Road in Miami, authorities said.

The stolen dogs included four Chihuahuas valued at $900 each and a Shih Tzu puppy worth $500, owner Jesus Canoura said.

The heist was captured on surveillance cameras in the store.

Canoura said he was in the back of the store when the woman came in and pulled the pooches from their cages.

In June 2009, two women stole four Chihuahuas and two Yorkie puppies from the pet store and an employee that attempted to stop the theft was dragged down the block by the suspects' getaway car, Miami-Dade Police said.

Last week, a couple was arrested for allegedly snatching a Maltese puppy from a Broward pet shop.

Canoura said people steal the dogs to sell on the street and he is concerned the puppies won't find a good home.

"This is done for quick cash and nothing else," Canoura said.
