A 5-year-old girl who survived a fall from the 7th-story window at an Oakland Park apartment building is now in stable condition, hospital officials said Sunday.
The girl had been taken to the pediatric intensive care unit at Broward Health Medical Center in critical condition after falling from the Bridgewater Place apartments Friday night, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.
Investigators said that at about 8 p.m. the girl’s brother went to check on her, and found her walking on the windowsill in her bedroom. As she tried to make her way back to her bed, she fell into the screen and out the window.
The girl fell onto a grassy patch near a fence, sidewalk and lake.
A mother and her 14-year-old daughter were the first to come to the girl’s rescue, before the victim’s mother came outside. All three took the child in a car to the hospital.
Authorities said they are investigating, but said the incident appears to be an accident.
