$5K Reward for Serial Bank Robber in S. Florida: FBI

The FBI is offering a $5,000 reward to help find the person they believe is responsible for four bank robberies and one attempted bank robbery in South Florida.

The robberies and attempted robbery all happened between May and December of last year. The FBI believes the same person is responsible for each incident.

"It's unique, the disguise that he's wearing in all the bank robberies and including the attempt, he's wearing a green or blue poncho," FBI spokesman Robert Lanier said.

The robber hit up a BB&T in Miami Lakes last May, followed by a Fifth Third Bank branch in Boca Raton in July. Later, in October, the individual robbed a Suntrust Bank in Hallandale, and in November tried unsuccessfully to rob another BB&T branch, this time in Miami Lakes.

"So what happens next, he goes back to Miami Lakes to rob that same bank again," Lanier said. "That time he was foiled because he went into the rest room to put on his disguise and somebody saw him so he had to run out."

Then in December, the robber went back and targeted the same Suntrust Bank in Hallandale.

In surveillance photos provided by the FBI, the robber is always seen wearing either a blue or green hooded poncho, their face covered by a mask and dark sunglasses.

There were no injuries reported in any of the robberies or attempted robbery, but the robber did get away with an undisclosed amount of money.

The FBI said the suspect used a green Grand Cherokee Laredo with tinted windows.

The reward is for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the string of robberies.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the FBI at (754) 703-2000.
