LEGISLATURE PASSES BILL TO EXTEND EARLY VOTING

Early voting days and sites would be expanded under a bill that was sent to Gov. Rick Scott on Friday, two years after he and the Republican-led Legislature cut the number of early voting days. The House and Senate approved a wide-ranging elections bill that attempts to fix problems that led to long lines and counting delays that once again put Florida in the national spotlight.

DEATH WARRANT FOR MAN CONVICTED OF FATAL ESCAPE ATTEMPT

Gov. Rick Scott has signed a death warrant for a man convicted in the death of a prison guard. The governor's office announced Friday that 58-year-old William Van Poyck is scheduled to die by lethal injection at Florida State Prison near Raiford at 6 p.m., June 12.

A family spokesman says 2-year-old Ireland Nugent's most recent surgeries and skin grafts were successful. She's expected to head home from the hospital over the weekend. She's been hospitalized since her father accidentally backed over her with a riding lawn mower on April 11.

LEBRON JAMES WINS 4TH MVP NBA AWARD

LeBron James will be introduced Sunday as the Most Valuable Player winner, according to a person familiar with the results and who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the league has not publicly announced this year's recipient. James will become the fifth player with at least four MVP awards, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain.

LAKELAND MAN ARRESTED IN CRASH THAT KILLED 3, SERIOUSLY INJURED 1

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says Edward McCoy faces multiple counts of vehicular homicide and driving under the influence causing death. An affidavit says McCoy's blood alcohol level was 0.234. McCoy's pickup truck collided with a car in a Lakeland intersection, killing a Mulberry couple. A Pennsylvania woman also was killed and her husband remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

CALDER CASINO CELEBRATES THE KENTUCKY DERBY

Calder Casino & Race Course will host "Florida's Biggest Kentucky Derby Party" Saturday. The event will feature an afternoon of live racing, with first post at 12:50 p.m. Guests can wager on races at Calder and other racing venues in North America.
