7-Foot Bull Shark Bites Diver Off South Florida Coast

The diver was bitten while spearfishing with two other people 2 miles offshore

A diver was bitten by a 7-foot bull shark about two miles off the coast of South Florida on Wednesday, officials said.

The injured diver — identified as 26-year-old Kyle Senkowicz — was rescued Wednesday at the Sailfish Marina, according to NBC affiliate WPTV. He was bitten while spearfishing with two other people in 60 feet of water.

Riviera Beach Fire Rescue said in a Twitter post the diver was bitten several times on the arm and was taken to a hospital with significant wounds.

Bull sharks weigh between 200 and 290 pounds and can grow up to 8 feet long, according to the International Shark Attack File at the University of Florida.

Senkowicz was listed in fair condition after the attack, WPTV reports.
