7-Year-Old Nearly Shoots Hand Off With Brother's Gun

A 7-year-old boy had successful surgery tpo repair his finger after he shot himself in the hand inside his Fort Lauderdale home, police said.

The shooting happened early Tuesday morning at a house on the 1000 block of Park Drive in Melrose Park. The gun belonged to the boy's brother, 21-year-old Steven Campbell, who was in the shower at the time of the shooting.

Campbell's .25 caliber handgun was fully loaded and near his bed, when the curious boy picked it up and fired it.

The boy's family took him to Plantation General Hospital for treatment. Campbell has a concealed weapons permit for the gun and has not been charged with a crime.

The boy is expected to be released home to hisparents later tonight.
