Miami-Dade 8th Grader Arrested After Making Threats to Kill Minorities in Group Chat

The child wrote he hated minorities and did not care if they were oppressed.

A South Florida 8th grader was arrested last Thursday after threatening to shoot minorities in a group chat filled with classmates, police said.

The 13-year-old student, who attends Leewood K-8 Center in Kendall, is now facing one count of written threats to kill or cause bodily injury, according to an arrest report released Monday.

The 8th grader wrote in the group chat on Wednesday that he hated minorities and did not care if they were oppressed.

"Wanna hear what is oppressed? My shotgun ammo because I am wasting it on minorities like you," the student wrote, according to the report.

Miami-Dade Police were contacted the following day and confronted the child in the school's administrative office. The student admitted to copying and pasting the message, the report said.

In a statement, Miami-Dade County Public Schools said they go "to great lengths to promote a culture of respect, restraint and tolerance" among their students.

"Students who choose threatening words or actions over the values we promote will learn a tough lesson. Written and verbal threats of any kind will be handled swiftly and may result in severe consequences," the statement read.

The child was transported to the juvenile assessment center. NBC 6 is not naming him due to his age.
