90 Pounds of Synthetic Drugs Seized at MIA Since December

About 90 pounds of synthetic drugs have been seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Miami International Airport in the past two months, officials said Thursday.

A total of 47 seizures have been made at the airport since Dec. 1 and all have resulted from inspections of mail in shipments from China, officials said.

Some of the drugs are bath salts and the drugs vary in concentrations and purities, officials said. Some samples were 100 to 800 times more potent than an "established counterpart," officials said.

“We are increasingly intercepting these parcels containing these new dangerous drugs," MIA Port Director Christopher Maston said in a statement. "CBP officers are diligently working to prevent these drugs from entering our nation."
