Suspect left bruised and battered after bike swipe: Fort Lauderdale Police

A homeless man may have gotten more than he bargained for when he tried to steal a bicycle and instead got the beating of a lifetime, Fort Lauderdale Police said.

Keith Kirk, 30, was left bruised and battered after he tried to take the bicycle from the One Stop Food Mart at 18 Northwest 1st Avenue Wednesday afternoon, according to a Fort Lauderdale arrest report obtained Friday.

According to the report, Kirk was spotted taking the bike, which is worth over $600, without permission or consent from the owner, Calvin McDougal.

McDougal pursued Kirk and tackled him, leading to a physical altercation in which McDougal struck Kirk in the face, the report said.
