Teen will get taxpayer funding for legal defense

Tyler Weinman is running out of money to fund his defense, and taxpayers will be picking up some of the bill.
The teen accused of killing nearly 20 cats throughout Miami-Dade is running out of money as he defends himself in what is shaping up to be a massive case, according to his lawyer.
Tyler Weinman's attorney, David Macey, was in court this morning to plead for economic assistance for the case, which he expects will include over 100 witnesses.
Weinman will receive $10,000 to help pay for depositions and another $2,500 for investigative costs - all from taxpayers - under the motion which was granted this morning. The daily expenses of Weinman's ankle monitoring bracelet will also be cut.
The 18 year old was arrested on June 14 and charged in the slaughter of 19 cats which were found throughout Cutler Bay and Palmetto Bay, often killed and cut to pieces and left for their owners to find.
The teen was hit with 19 counts of felony animal cruelty and improperly disposing of an animal body, and four counts of burglary.
Weinman has been under house arrest after he was released in June on $249,500 bond.
