The decadent city of Miami known for its salsa dancing and pork laden Cuban fare is getting its first big scale vegan fest.
Seed Food and Wine Festival has landed some of the biggest names in the business, including Rich Landau and Kate Jacoby. The husband-and-wife chef-owners of Vedge restaurant in Philadelphia will prepare a dinner Friday night. California raw food guru Matthew Kenney will serve up Saturday night's meal.
Actress and "The Kind Diet" author Alicia Silverstone will be on hand for Saturday's street festival in midtown, which will include cooking and gardening demonstrations, yoga, a farmer's market, craft beer and meat-free fare.
Miami resident Alison Burgos planned the festival after going vegan last year following a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis. She lost weight, had improved mobility and was able to toss some of her prescriptions.
