Alleged Burglars Charged With Murder in Shooting of Accomplice by Sunrise Homeowner

Two men who were allegedly involved in a Sunrise burglary that ended with a homeowner shooting and killing a third suspect are now facing murder charges.

Jose Demond Coleman, 23, and Curtis Jefferies, 26, were arrested in connection with Monday's burglary in the 4300 block of Northwest 103rd Terrace, Sunrise Police officials said.

Both suspects were in court Tuesday, where they were ordered held without bond. It's unknown if they've hired attorneys.

Police said the three suspected broke into the home through a sliding glass door.

According to arrest reports, the homeowner loaded his shotgun and called 911. Moments later, once the suspects were inside the house, the homeowner shot at them, hitting one suspect.

Coleman and Jefferies fled the scene but were caught nearby, police said.

The suspect who was shot was taken to Broward General Hospital where he later died. Police later identified him as 21-year-old Albert Eugene Jones.

There are no pending charges against the homeowner but the case will be presented for review by the state attorney's office as a matter of procedure, police said.
