Alleged Robber Identified After Police Release Photos Found On His Cell Phone

A suspect in a robbery was identified and arrested after police released photos found on his cell phone, which he left at the crime scene, the Broward Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.

Javante Wilcher, 20, was found at the Covenant House in Fort Lauderdale, authorities said.

He faces one count of armed robbery, authorities said. It wasn't immediately known if he had an attorney.

On May, 30, the victim was walking eastbound along the 2500 block of NW 8th Street in Broward County around 8 p.m., the Broward Sheriff's Office said. The suspect approached the victim from behind, put him in chokehold, holding to his neck what he thought was a box cutter, the sheriff's office said.

The victim chased the suspect as he began to run away and fought with him, authorities said. The victim thought the robber was injured and back away, that's when the suspect fled , leaving his cell phone at the scene, authorities said.
