Alonzo Mourning Breaks Ground on Overtown Affordable Housing Project

Miami Heat legend and Hall of Famer Alonzo Mourning continues to score points off the court.

After seven long years of planning, Zo and a team of developers broke ground Monday on a $22.8 million affordable housing project in Overtown.

The Courtside Family Apartments is the first phase of a new game-changing affordable housing development in Miami’s historic Overtown.

In order to qualify for one of the 84 apartments, a family of four must make less than $40,000 per year.

Mourning, a former foster child himself, says he relishes the opportunity to give back.

Mourning was granted a 65 year lease on the land.

South Florida has one of the least affordable housing markets in the country. Mourning's team is planning more phases of the project for seniors, veterans and former foster children.
