A stretch of Alton Road in Miami Beach will be opening back up much sooner than anticipated Wednesday.
The southbound and northbound lanes between 8th Street and 17th Street will be opened up by the end of the day as construction on Alton Road is ahead of schedule, city officials said.
The reopening is about a month ahead of schedule.
"It feels amazing; feels like all of a sudden you can breathe again," said Mayor Philip Levine. "We wanted to get the traffic moving fast. All of the details will be done in the next 60-90 days; trees, sidewalks, curbs beind done properly."
All construction is scheduled to be completed on December 31.
