Andrew Rolle, Man Convicted in Miami Cop's Murder, Sentenced to Life in Prison

The man convicted in the killing an off-duty Miami Police officer in 2008 was sentenced to life behind bars Monday.

Andrew Rolle, 27, was found guilty of first-degree murder earlier this month in the shooting death of Det. James Walker in January 2008.

Police say Walker was off-duty when he was shot to death inside his unmarked police car in North Miami Beach. Rolle, who was arrested after a massive search, has claimed the shooting was in self defense.

A judge declared a mistrial in Rolle's first trial in June, after a dispute between defense attorneys and prosecutors. Rolle's attorneys claimed there were "discovery violations" while prosecutors claimed Rolle had the information in dispute but never gave it to his attorneys.

It took jurors about nine hours to deliver the verdict following the retrial.

Rolle’s attorney, David Peckins, said they plan to appeal the verdict. Rolle is already serving a 50 year prison sentence for convictions in two separate trials on armed robbery charges.
