Anthony Verdict Dispute Leads to Battery Bust

Man arrested after allegedly hitting woman in argument over trial

Police say an argument over the outcome of the Casey Anthony trial got out of hand in Melbourne Beach when a man punched a woman in the face before jumping into a river to elude police.

Robert Aydin Hakimoglu, 42, was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, battery and an alcohol ordinance violation after the altercation that happened just before midnight Saturday at the Melbourne Beach Pier, according to floridatoday.com.

Police say Hakimoglu and other fisherman had been drinking and discussing the acquittal of Anthony on charges of murdering her daughter last week when things turned ugly.

Hakimoglu allegedly struck the woman, then jumped into the Indian River when officers arrived. The river and surrounding area was searched for two hours before officers gave up.

Hakimoglu was later arrested at his parents' home, where officers found him sleeping in his bedroom. He was later released from the Brevard County Jail on $1,250 bond.
