Massive Apartment Fire in NE Miami-Dade Displaces Dozens of Residents

The American Red Cross is helping assist more than 30 people affected by a massive apartment fire in NE Miami-Dade.

The Red Cross said 24 units were affected at the Star Lake Apartments, which displaced about 36 residents – including children.

"Everything – everything is destroyed," resident Marlene Perez said. "My pictures. Four years in the apartment and I lost everything. You know, it's not easy.

Firefighters called for reinforcements in the blaze that began at the building near NE 2nd Avenue and 190th Street Wednesday afternoon.

Most residents are senior citizens or U.S. veterans. No injuries have been reported and officials have not said if anyone was inside at the time the fire started.

Officials have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
