Armed Suspect Carjacks Uber Driver: MDPD

Miami-Dade Police are investigating after an armed suspect carjacked an Uber driver early Wednesday morning.

Police say the carjacking happened at 4:20 a.m. The incident was caught on surveillance video.

According to sources, a woman called for an Uber in the 18000 block of Northwest 85 Avenue in the Palm Springs North section of northwest Miami-Dade.

When the Uber arrived, the suspect pulled out a gun and forced the driver out before driving away with the car, sources say.

"Somebody came out of the clear blue, a black gentleman with a gun, and demanded my car, demanded me to get out of the car and he took off in my car," the driver told NBC 6. "He had a nice, big old gun, so anybody, if it happens to them, do the same thing, don't fight them, don't look at them, look down at the ground and just walk away."

An investigation is active and ongoing. Police said the car is a silver 4-door 2012 Toyota Corolla.

"I've had over 5,000 customers in the last year and it's the first incident I've ever had," the driver said.

Anyone with information should contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
