Police are investigating after a thief got away with more than $100,000 during a brazen armed robbery at a Hialeah casino Sunday.

The robbery happened around 5 p.m. at the Hialeah Park Casino at 2200 E. 4th Avenue, when the suspect surprised an elderly employee who was working alone in an office, Hialeah Police said.

The suspect, who was wearing a ski mask and armed with a handgun, struck the employee on the side of his head and bound his hands with nylon tie-wraps, but the employee wasn't seriously injured, police said.

The suspect was able to gain access to the office where money is temporarily stored and stole an undisclosed amount of money estimated at more than $100,000, police said.

After taking the cash, the suspect was able to flee the scene undetected, police said.
