Arrest Made in 2012 Miami-Dade County Murder

Three years after Adrian Lopez, 21, was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds; his alleged killer was arrested and appeared in court Wednesday.

Miami-Dade Police arrested Christopher Luis Rivero, 23, Tuesday on a charge of second-degree murder for Lopez’s death. Lopez left his home around 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 3, detectives said. Police said Lopez’s car made several stops that day.

Detectives said in 2012 that Lopez’s truck was seen at a Sunoco gas station between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on January 3rd with two men in the truck with Lopez. Police said Lopez’s truck was spotted about two hours later on SW 280th Street and SW 207th Avenue.

Two days later, his body was found inside his truck with his keys and cell phone missing.

Rivero said he didn’t kill Lopez, prosecutors said, but did call him several times on the day Lopez went missing. Rivero claims he bought drugs from Lopez in the past, but prosecutors said that was only part of the story.

“There’s cell phone evidence which puts the defendant at the same location as to where the victim was found dead,” a Miami-Dade County prosecutor told the court Wednesday.

An eyewitness told police that she saw a car like Rivero’s red Dodge Charger next to Lopez’s pickup truck. Prosecutors said a print from Rivero was found on Lopez’s truck as well.

Rivero is being held in jail with no bond, it’s unknown if he has an attorney.
