Arrest Made in Shooting of 3-Year-Old in Liberty City

A suspect has been arrested in the shooting of a 3-year-old girl in Liberty City Sunday afternoon, Miami police said Tuesday.

A 16-year-old has been arrested and charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder, one count of shooting into an occupied building and one count of use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, police said.

What police said began Sunday as a dispute between neighbors ended with bullets flying in an apartment building near Northwest 62nd Street and 12th Avenue around 2:30 p.m., police said.

The toddler, identified as Ayanna Daniels, was outside playing with her brother and friends when she was shot in the leg, family members said.

She was picked up by responders at a nearby bus stop and brought to Jackson Memorial Hospital in stable condition. Doctors successfully removed a bullet from her leg, and she has been released.

Her father, Alquidivan Daniels, said he fired a weapon at the suspects.

No one else was injured in the gunfire.
