Art Basel 2016 Officially Begins Thursday Across South Florida

For the last 15 years, art lovers from across the country and around the world have descended on Miami Beach and locations across the area for the annual Miami Art Week – and the anchor event of it all, Art Basel.

Thursday, the general public will get a chance to check out some of the amazing – and pricy – items inside the Miami Beach Convention Center and other locations, such as the Wynwood section of Miami.

The events bring out some of the top stars from entertainment, music, sports and other genres. Supermodel and talent judge of NBC’s America’s Got Talent, Heidi Klum, was joined by tennis superstar Venus Williams and others at a preview event Wednesday night.

Traffic and creative art will be the two of the most common words used to describe Art Basel this weekend.

So Uber and Effen Vodka decided to take advantage of the busy weekend by land, air, and sea.

“Customers go on the App and they request the Effen Upgrade which gives them Lux SUV – the premium in car experience,” said Kasra Moshkani, the general manager of Uber South Florida.

Riders can also take the experience on water by going on a yacht to their destination, but for the first time both companies are taking the experience in the air for you and a few of your closest friends.

“A car will come pick you up, you'll be taken to the dock. You'll be taken into a luxuary yacht there, and then finally you'll be taken to the sea plane and take a tour or whatever Miami has to offer,” Moshkani said.

Each form of transportation continues the artistic theme of Art Basel with unique designs of the city skyline on pillows done by Kwue Molly.

“As an artist, it blew my mind seeing my art traveling around,” Molly said. “But honestly, the message is a company that's combining having a good time, and going out and getting home safe.”
