Art Miami, Art Basel Events to Cause Traffic Problems This Weekend Across Miami-Dade County

Art lovers will be making their way to areas across Miami-Dade County this week for the annual Art Basel 2017 and Art Miami events. At the same time, officials are advising motorists to prepare for possible delays and seek alternate routes when traveling to the area.

Art Miami started Tuesday in its new home located at the old Miami Herald building on Biscayne Bay with surrounding events in Wynwood, Midtown and Downtown Miami. Drivers can expect delays on the Venetian and MacArthur Causeways as well as surrounding roads.

On Miami Beach, Art Basel will kick off Thursday with thousands taking over Miami Beach and the city’s convention center – where construction continues and can hamper travel plans.

In an effort to avoid massive delays, organizers are suggesting alternate routes for those heading to events, including:

  • Uber and Lyft, which will have set points to drop off and pick up passengers in the areas using the service.
  • Metrorail, Metromover and Metrobus, which will all have normal weekend service and an increased number of buses and trains during events.
  • Shuttles will run from Miami to Miami Beach and to satellite events across both cities.
  • Miami Beach will run its free trolley service from 8 a.m. to midnight each day with arrivals around every 15 minutes.
  • Water Taxi Miami will offer services between both cities each day until 8:30 p.m. while CitiBike services will be available as usual on Miami Beach, with prices around $4 for a 30 minute period.
