Taking a break from fighting leukemia, 13-year-old Francisco Diaz painted a ninja turtle. Other patients at Holtz Children's Hospital did the same. For Alissa Collado, it was a rainbow.
"Rainbows are exciting and fun and happy," Alissa said. "I'm always happy."
It's that positive, colorful attitude that brings ArtCares for Kids to the Miami hospital twice a week.
"They can get a break from their procedures and they can start to process some of the emotions they are going through through their art," Dorian Rosen with ArtCares for Kids said.
Not only are all of the paints, colored pencils, and markers helping young patients make it through their daily treatments, but they are also going to help renovate a room where kids eat with their families. Some of the money will come from the sale of their artwork.
"The kids have been working on this project for several months and it will launch on Sept. 4th-14th," Marisol Garcia with Holtz Children's Hospital said.
More than 60 pieces will be auctioned off online. The starting bid will be $15.
