Homicide detectives were investigating the death of a woman who was rushed to the hospital from a Weston medical cosmetic center, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

Maria Shortall, 38, of Davie, was having a procedure done at the Alyne Center for Cosmetic Surgery Saturday afternoon when an employee called 911 to report that a female patient was not breathing, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Deputies and Fire Rescue personnel responded, and paramedics transported her to Cleveland Clinic, where she was pronounced dead shortly after 4 p.m., authorities said.

The Broward Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy to determine the cause of death, authorities said.

"We are currently investigating this incident and are awaiting the report from the Medical Examiners Office. At this time, we have no further comment," Ariel Sofro, an attorney with Lubell & Rosen, representing the facility and its owner, said in an email statement.
