Authorities Investigating Death of 11-Year-Old Miami Girl

The father of an 11-year-old Miami girl wants to know what led to his daughter being found unresponsive Sunday afternoon.

“Why? Why? My daughter is only 11 years old,” said Jorge Guzman. “I can’t believe it.”

Marta Guzman, 11, was found unresponsive inside her mother’s apartment just outside downtown Miami.

“Her mom had her,” said Shelly Munoz, a friend of Guzman’s. “She was on her mom’s knees, and she was bleeding from the shirt.”

Marta was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition, but died at the hospital. The girl's uncle said police haven't told them much about the girl's death. He said he received a call from his brother -- the child's father -- telling him "his little girl had been killed."

Munoz said Marta was like a “little sister” and that the two were best friends. Shelly said that Marta also had a history of cutting herself.

“It is not good to know that somebody who was just here a few days ago playing around with us, she’s gone. She was too small, man,” Munoz said.
