2 Women Dead in Deputy-Involved Shooting in Tamarac: BSO

BSO deputies respond to shooting scene Wednesday

Two women died in a deputy-involved shooting in Tamarac Wednesday morning, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.

The shooting happened around 10:30 a.m. at the Mainlands of Tamarac retirement community in the 4700 block of Northwest 44th Street, BSO spokeswoman Dani Moschella said.

Officials said deputies responded to a call of a woman waving a gun in the area and confronted the woman.

The deputies told the woman, who they later identified as Linda Sue Davis, 60, to put down the gun and at one point at least one of the deputies opened fire, killing her, officials said.

Deputies found the body of the other woman on the doorstep of the home. The woman, who was identified Thursday as Jolene Shamburg, 75, was shot inside the house at 10:35 a.m., and then found face down in the driveway by a deputy, authorities said.

Davis came out holding a gun, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office Tamarac district deputies were familiar with Davis, they said.

"They responded to her home 79 times since March 2008 for various reasons categorized as suspicious incidents, a mentally ill person, medical calls, information, breaking and entering and disturbances, among other things," authorities said in an email statement.

New Broward Sheriff Scott Israel, who was sworn in Tuesday, took questions at the scene and said the incident is still being investigated.

Meanwhile, Davis' brother Andrew Davis said he did not know her to have a gun. He said she had some emotional issues but nothing that would have led to a violent death. She had always been independent, he said.

"She's had nervous breakdowns, and she's back, back in and out of the hospital," he said. "I don't know what happened here."
