Authorities Release 911 Call From Landing Collapse

The second-story landing of the apartment collapsed and injured two people.

Authorities on Tuesday released the 911 call from a landing collapse at a Miami apartment last week.

"They were standing outside the door, and they just fell off from the second floor," the caller told City of Miami Fire Rescue.

Tanya Benavides and Victor Mauricio Cerratto, who fell during the landing collapse, were not seriously injured. The caller told Fire Rescue that the pair was awake, breathing and alert, and had no serious bleeding.

"Tell them not to move around. Remain calm until rescue arrives," the dispatch told the caller.

The apartment is located on Biscayne Blvd. and 29th Street. Building inspector Ray Benitez took photos of the damage and issued a $210 fine to the owner.

"If the owner won't fix an unsafe structure, just call the city. That's our job, to protect the public," Benitez said.
