An Aventura man has gone from fat to fit and he's getting national attention.

Eli Sapharti works out six days a week. Five years ago, he was 110 pounds heavier. His before and after pictures, and his story, are featured in the People magazine on newsstands now.

"I was an obese man that changed my life one step at a time and here I am today," Eli Sapharti said while working out at Boca Raton's Busy Body Fitness.

Sapharti said he's been big his entire life and has tried diets before, but they were only a short-term fix and the weight always came back. Then one day, a comment by an airport employee finally made him change his ways for good.

"The girl at the counter said, 'You're very good looking for a big guy.' It would be a compliment. To me, all I heard was 'You're fat' and that just stuck with me in my head that entire trip," Sapharti said.

First, Sapharti stopped drinking 2 liters of Coke a day and started going outside to walk for 15 minutes.

"You can do it ... if you want to," he said. "This isn't overnight. My motto is one step at a time."

Step by step. That's Sapharti's advice for getting motivation and keeping it – by making small, realistic lifestyle changes.

Sapharti's website www.FatBoyFitMan.com is full of other weight loss stories and motivational tips to help people achieve their goals. There, you can also find a link to his Facebook page.
