Nearly 100 Broward Sheriff's Office deputies will head to Tampa Thursday to assist with security at next week's Republican National Convention.

The deputies gathered at the BSO's Weston substation where they'll get final instructions and later depart for Tampa.

Thousands of law enforcement officers from across the state will be heading to Tampa for the huge event scheduled to begin on Monday at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

The BSO will be sending one of the largest contingents from among the Florida sheriff's offices, and their team will consist of Field Force member deputies who are trained in crowd control and managing civil unrest, the BSO said.

The 95 deputies will join with the U.S. Secret Service and hundreds of officers from other federal, state and local agencies to keep peace at the convention.

Broward Sheriff Al Lamberti said there are already rumblings of trouble spreading through the law enforcement community.

"We've already got intelligence that there are anarchist groups already in Tampa and they're there to disrupt things," Lamberti said. "One, we've heard from the sheriff over there, they've found stockpiles of bricks and bottles on rooftops. We have an intelligence brief from the FBI about Molotov cocktails and eggs injected with acid."

All the participating law enforcement agencies and departments, including the BSO, are reimbursed for all expenses.
