BSO Identifies Suspect in Shooting of Navy Sailor

Anthon Adams, an active duty member of the U.S. Navy, remains in critical condition in a Broward County hospital after he was shot on Thanksgiving night in front of his two young daughters.

But the Broward Sheriff's Office now has a suspect it's looking for in the shooting, a man who had gotten out of jail just three weeks earlier.

The BSO said Anthon, who was visiting the area for Thanksgiving, was standing outside his mother’s home with his brother Andrew as the children played. The BSO said both brothers were approached by a group of men and a fight ensued with Andrew Adams.

The BSO said that Anthon was trying to stop the fight and get the kids out of the way when a suspect pulled a gun and fired several shots. Three bullets hit Anthon and he was taken to the hospital in critical condition. No one else was injured.

Detectives with the Broward Sheriff's Office are looking for Andrew Simmons, 26, for what they say was his part in the shooting. BSO said Simmons has an active arrest warrant for the shooting and that he is a career offender who was released from jail just three weeks before the Thanksgiving shooting.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to contact Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS (8477).
